Installation Issues
Does ConfigScan need to be installed on a physical or virtual ESX server?
You can install the application either on a stand alone server or on a virtual server.
There is no difference. You just need to ensure that you take system requirements into account
How does the license key work?
On purchase, you will be provided with a license key, administrator username and password. Once you log into the server, you will be requested to enter the license key into the application. On entry, the application will unlock and you will be able to use the application.
What happens if my server moves to another data center?
If your server is moving to another data center, and as long as your IP address does not change, the application will work fine. If the company moves the application, please contact 360GRC support helpline to request a new license key to be processed.
What are the system requirements for ConfigScan?
Please see the
ConfigScan System requirements page for details
How long does it to take to install the application?
As long as the system requirements have been met, the average time for installation is approximately thirty (30) minutes.
Browser Issues
Which browser should be used to access the application?
We are writing support for more browsers and versions daily, and most browsers will work for the front end of the application (such as Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer), only Internet Explorer 7 and above should be used for the application. Support will only be available for IE.
What are the Internet Explorer browser security settings?
Can you access the application securely?
Yes, you can only access the application using HTTPS.
Inventory Management Issues
How many devices can you load into Inventory Management?
There is no limit to the number of devices, however, for large scale enterprise solutions this will have to be architected with the help of a 360 GRC System's Architect to ensure the server is scalable
Does the application have to discover my network to load the inventory?
No. ConfigScan is completely offline, and does not need SNMP discovery to go out and discover the network.
Is there a utility to upload hundreds of devices into inventory management?
Use the following "Device Upload Utility" to upload your devices into the application. To get the most accurate results, ensure that all columns are filled out, however, the columns highlighted in yellow are mandatory.

Why don't you discover the network using SNMP?
This is a strong preference of our existing customers. They would prefer another tool not having access to a live network to prevent any production outages.
A SNMP discovery feature is available with ConfigScan for client looking for a real time security tool as an option.
Can I use my existing Inventory management tool to gather the inventory data?
Yes. You can use Cisco works, Solarwinds and other network management tools to create a report in an Excel format with the order of the columns in the "Device Upload Utility"; this data can then be easily uploaded into the application.
What happens if my inventory changes?
Network infrastructure rarely changes. On a larger scale, this occurs during company acquisition. If a device is being decommissioned or added, you can simply go to the Inventory Management and manage individual devices from there.
Configuration Management Issues
How do I upload configurations into ConfigScan?
There are two simple ways of uploading configurations per device. You can manually upload the configurations, or you can map to a network directory, typically to your network management tools including Cisco works, CA Spectrum, HP Opsware, and IBM Tivoli etc
What happens if the configuration files changes?
This is quite simple. You can create a schedule to upload the configurations from the mapped directory. As long as the latest configurations are in inventory management, the audit will be run on the latest configurations.
Do you keep a history of the previous configurations?
Yes. All previous configurations are kept within inventory management, and you can go back and audit any of these previous configurations at any time.

User Issues
Can ConfigScan support multiple users?
An administrator can create unlimited number of users within the application. The administrator account is provided at the time of purchase
What are the various types of accounts that can be created?
There are 3 types of accounts, Administrator, Manager and User. Each has different privileges.
Why can't I change the audit rules created by root?
The root user has ultimate access to the application. The root user account can only be accessed by a 360 GRC Systems or Support Engineer. This account is used to provide audit rule compliance updates. Any audit rule created by root cannot be changed as it is a mandatory compliance check. However, that rule can be copied and changed by any user.
Can the account privileges be customized?
Yes, each account can be customized in detailed to various parts of the screen, to secure access from a particular IP address, within certain times, etc.
